This wikiHow will teach you how to connect Slack to your Google Calendar and sync it, which is useful so others in your Slack will know when you're available and when you're busy. Once you have the Google Calendar app installed and synced, you can enter "/gcal today" or "/gcal tomorrow" to see what you have scheduled on your Calendar.
[Edit]Steps
[Edit]Adding the Google Calendar App to Slack
- Go to https://slack.com/app-pages/google-calendar. You'll need to install Google Calendar to your Slack first, and this is Slack's website for adding the Google Calendar app to your Slack account.
- Click . You'll see it with the Slack icon in Google's colors at the top of the page.
- If you want to connect a shared Google Calendar with Team Events, click Add to Slack at the bottom of the page.
- Select the workplace you want to connect Google Calendar with. If you don't want to add the Google Calendar app to the Slack workspace, you can change it in the drop-down box in the top right corner of your screen. When you have the workspace selected, click Allow.
- Login with your Google account (if prompted). If you have multiple Google accounts, you will be prompted to select which one to use before continuing.
- When the connection is complete, you'll be redirected to a direct message with Google Calendar in your Slack workspace.[1]
- You have the app connected to your Slack account, but you still have to sync to use all the features.
[Edit]Syncing Your Slack and Google Calendar
- Launch Slack. You can use the web browser or open the computer client from the Start menu or Applications folder.
- Click . You'll see it at the bottom of the vertical menu on the left side of the page under the header, "Apps."
- Click the tab(if it's not already selected). It's at the top of your screen in the right panel with Messages and About.
- Click . It's at the bottom of the page.
- Login with your Google account. Once connected, you'll see a message in Slack that the connection was successful. You'll receive notifications within Slack for event reminders and alerts from your Google Calendar.
- Click . This syncs your Slack status with your Google Calendar, so if you're in a meeting, other people in your workspace can see that you're not available.[2]
- To create an event, go to the app's "Home" tab and click Create event in the top right corner.
- To adjust the sync, notifications, or add another account, go to the app's "Home" tab and click Settings.
[Edit]Tips
- You can always check the "Home" tab of the Google Calendar app to check your day's appointments and scheduling, but you can also click the three-dot menu/More icon next to an event name to view the event's details. You can go to the "Messages" tab to respond to event updates or responses too.
- Many of these steps are the same for the mobile app as well.[3]
